About the Institute.jpg

Patanjala Yoga Institute was founded in Moscow on 27 July 1999.

Full name: Patanjala Yoga Institute.

Abbreviation: PYI.

The main objective of the Patanjala Yoga Institute is study and research of Yoga of Patanjali and related areas of philosophy, religion, culture, science, medicine, sport, psychology and linguistics.

Over a thousand of students studied yoga in yoga centres of the Institute during the last 10 years. Many of the former students teach hatha yoga in Moscow and abroad or have launched their own yoga studios.

Yoga centres of the PYI are unique because they teach fundamentals of yoga and universal yoga techniques.

We study and teach universal principles of yoga which may be applied in any yoga school irrespective of the chosen style of yoga practice.

The Centre for studying Patanjala Yoga Sutras founded by the PYI is one of the most reputable institutions of this type in the world.

The Institute has organised numerous international yoga seminars in Moscow and abroad.

The Institute has organised about a hundred of workshops and over five hundred master classes.

Now the same in simple words:

Physical aspect expressed in externals of yoga is far from being the only basis for successful practice of yoga. Naturally, in the PYI we teach asanas, bandhas and kryas, i.e. those techniques which are commonly associated with yoga.

You are unlikely to succeed in yoga by mechanical practicing asanas without deep understanding of their impact and purpose. For these reasons our program included not only practice of postures but also theoretical training from human to classical yoga texts.

Students of the PYI study philosophy and psychology of yoga. Our experience shows that most of the students seriously interested in yoga demonstrate interest for these disciplines.

Another important aspect is your safety. We all have different bodies and our physical and psychological conditions are different. For these reasons teachers of the PYI have individual approach to every student.

Classes in the PYI are given by experienced teachers who have been teaching in Russia and abroad. The director of the PYI, Sergey Reznichenko was and is teaching yoga to many practising yogis who have opened their own yoga schools.

Authors of numerous publications agree that modern people may really benefit from practice of yoga. It is only natural that many people wish to start practicing yoga.

It should be noted that books may give only general information about yoga. Published complexes of postures do not take into account your personal physical and mental condition. In order to practice yoga without harm to your health, it is important that you study yoga techniques under the instruction of an experience master.

The PYI has been successfully working in Moscow for over 10 years. Experts from the Institute study, research and apply in practice traditional classic text of the yoga of Patanjali.

Based on classic techniques the PYI has developed its own teaching techniques aimed at continuous long-term practice.

Students of the Institute study over 200 asanas, bandhas, mudras and kryas and about 100 kinds of pranayama, basics of samyama, theory of yoga, Sanskrit, psychology and medicine. Classes are held only by teachers with internationally recognised experience who have been teaching and practising yoga for many years.
